Abstract:

The article tells about an unknown story from the history of “Detgiz” publishing house. We are talking about the fate of a talented Siberian editor, publisher, head of the district Department of public education Mikhail Mikhailovich Basov. The epistolaries of M. Gorky, P.P. Kryuchkov and M.M. Basov have been preserved, they are connected with the history of “Detgiz” publishing house and are stored in Gorky Archive in Moscow (IWL RAS). Materials about Basov, stored in the State Archive of the Modern History of the Irkutsk Region (GANIO), were also involved. Published for the first time letters and telegrams of M.M. Basov reflect the difficult history of his appointment as director of a children’s publishing house and give an idea of the personal and professional qualities of the Siberian publisher and teacher.
