Research interests:
Russian poetry of the Silver Age (K. Balmont, A. Blok, Andrey Bely, S. Yesenin, N. Klyuev, etc.), Russian-German cultural relations of the 19th–20th centuries.
Teaching activity:
In 1963–1980 Azadovsky taught foreign languages at the institutes of Leningrad and Petrozavodsk. Until 1980 he was the head of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry.
Professional service:
Member of the editorial boards of the magazines Zvezda, Voprosy literatury, Novoe literaturnoe obozrenie.
