Graduated from the Russian Department of the Philological Faculty of Zhdanov Leningrad State University.

PhD thesis:
Old Russian Rhythmic Prose of the 11^th–13^th (1973; academic supervisor D.S. Likhachev).

DSc (Habil.) thesis:
Poetry of the Russian Baroque in the Context of the Culture of the Transition Period from the Middle Ages to Modern Times (1990).

Research interests:
Theory and history of literature, historical poetics, comparative literature, literature of the Russian Middle Ages and Early Modern Period in the Slavic and European context; Slavic studies; features of the literary process in Ukraine and Belarus in the second half of the 16^th–18^th centuries; Baroque poetics; rhetoric as a cultural practice; internal links between the cultural tradition of the Middle Ages and Baroque and the literature of the Modernity

Honorary titles and awards:
In 2017, L.I. Sazonova was awarded the A.N. Veselovsky Prize of the Russian Academy of Sciences for the first academic study and publication of the heraldic and emblematic poem “The Russian Eagle” by Simeon Polotsky.
Other information: Member of the National Committee of Slavists of the Russian Federation. Member of the Editorial Board of the publication "Proceedings of the Department of Ancient Russian Literature" (St. Petersburg). Member of the Society of Researchers of Ancient Russia (Moscow).
Teaching activity: As a visiting professor, L.I. Sazonova has taught at universities in Germany (Heidelberg, Bonn) and Italy (Urbino, Milan, Florence).
In 1992–1993, she served as a professor at the Russian State University for the Humanities.
From 1995 to 2004, she taught at the St. Andrew's Biblical and Theological Institute.
In 1997, at the invitation of the British Academy, she gave lectures at the universities of Cambridge and Oxford.
