Saratov Association of Proletarian Writers: Materials for the History of Regional Associations

    The article presents the new archival materials and the regional newspaper periodicals data used to comment on the history of the provincial branch of the All–Russian Association of Proletarian Writers — Saratov APP. The main stages of its history are reconstructed — from the moment of its emergence and separation from the local Proletcult, the development and strengthening of the organization, until its entry into the Lower Volga APP in 1928. The facts of the biography of the main members of the SAPP are established. It is attempted to trace the forms and means of intermediation of the SAPP with the central body of the VAPP in Moscow, to establish the degree of involvement of the SAPP in the implementation of VAPP / RAPP projects, the reaction of the center to the activities of the regional office in Saratov. According to the archive data, an episode of confrontation within the SAPP caused by the appearance of a group of literary scholars has been restored. The episode of Lelevich’s stay in Saratov is considered. The reasons for RAPP’s negative assessment of SAPP’s activities during the reconstructive period have been established. It is concluded that the originality of the provincial history of literature must be taking in account and be studied more thoroughly from archival materials and evidence of local periodicals.
